This page covers my work in RakuEach piece of Raku pottery or Sculpture is individually hand built or hand thrown. Once dry it is bisque fired in an electric kiln then painted with glaze. Each piece is thenindividually fired outdoors in the gas Raku kiln where the glaze is watched by eye for maturity. When the glaze is molten the piece is removed from the kiln glowing red hot. It may be left for a few moments to allow the claze to craze, or immediately lifted by tongs and placed in a smoke chamber and covered with wood shavings. The process produces unique effects - smoke filled crazing of the glaze and lustrous copper and metallic tones. Raku fired ceramics are not suitable for food or liquids. |
