Alice Buttress

Alice’s selection of ceramics is constantly evolving, as she continues to experiment with new techniques and glazes. Her exciting range of ceramic work includes:

Pottery – Unique designs in stoneware and porcelain – decorative and functional bowls, vases etc.
Sculpture – An eclectic mix from small owls and wrens to dragons, plus larger sculpted decorated bowls.
Raku – Sculpted Animals, Puffins, Hares, Owls, etc. plus thrown Pots and framed Tile Pictures, raku fired which achieves unique effects.

Wood Sculptures

Alice has also been a Chainsaw Carver for 15 years, taking part in various competitions in Scotland and the European Championships in England. She specialises in small carvings of Owls, Squirrels, Birds of Prey, Bears, wall hangings, etc. and usually has several for sale on display at the Gallery. She carves the basic shape with chainsaws of different sizes, then the carving is sanded and finished off using various power tools, and pyrography. The carvings, treated with preservatives, and stains, are finished to a high standard and are suitable for indoor or outdoor situations depending on type of wood used, etc.
